What is a godly man?
Here is another post from the archive.

I talked with a good friend the other day about what a Godly man looks like. We have both been reading Wild at Heart and we decided to compile this list.
A Godly Man is…
- Someone who knows he is a man
- Willing to take risks
- Spiritually Violent (Mat 11:12)
- Knows where his strength comes from
- Tenacious
- Confident in God
- Respected
- Full of wisdom
- Willing to be a servant
- Willing to fight against all odds
- One who chases after God.
- One who knows who he is in God
- One who holds his brothers strong and helps them to stand
- One who doesn’t back down under fire
- Humble
- Passionate
- Obedient
- Selfless
An Ungodly man is…
- Self absorbed
- a Hypocrite
- Lazy
- Predial
- Self confident (confidence comes from self not God)
- a Coward
- Takes the easy way
- Spineless
- Insecure
- Greedy
- A traitor
- Condemning/Judgmental
- Tolerant of his own sin
- Hard Hearted

Wow… I WOULD say that your “godly” man is impossible, but Jesus was and is all the things that you listed. When a man or woman is in Christ I know/see that all those things on your list are possible. And that is so exciting!
Praise the Lord for all the godly men in my life… one in particular. <3

Ohhhhh… Grace, dat was sooo sweet. :’-)
Just imagine me talking in the high, childish, yet satirical manor that you will only hear if you happen to be around me when I talk to my Chihuahua.
Anyway… that was random.
Wow, Thomas. I have a lot of work, hu?
See you tomorow. Just as soon as I finish my SAT Math test. :-\
> < > Brian
PS: Now that whole heart thing is REALLY cool! <3 Ha! Neat! <3 <3 <3
PSS: Thomas, the whole OpenID think isn’t working for me. Or, at least, I think that’s the problem.

Nice thought provoking pro/con analysis. And I especially like Grace’s comments
When I think of “what a Godly man looks like,” I first think about “faithful,” or “faithfulness.” Didn’t see this on your list. I wanted to name one of my sons with a name that means “faithful,” but there was only one that I could find: Fidel. Oh————– yuk!
Fidel Castro ironically has most of your “ungodly man” characteristics! Even the predial communist ideal of being attached to the land as one who belongs to the land of Cuba, instead of the land belonging to first God, next to man as in capitalism. Although I have never thought that “predial” is akin to ungodliness: a new thought for an old man. I wonder how predial serfs of 100s of years ago in say, Russia, were godly men, if predial is truly an aspect of ungodliness?

Great list! But I would add “gentle” to the godly man list.
Grace, thanks for the heart idea! I’ll have to use that with my hubby!

Just FYI: I can love Thomas, too!!! Just not in the same way. And who said I was doing the hearts for Thomas anyway?
Jesus call us to love our Christian Bros (aka: Thomas) and the whole world, too.
;-p
;-p
How’s that for a 1NR? <3 Brian
PS: Just for spiteful effect: I <3 <3 <3 <3 all of you!

I would add loving to this list. Love, and all that it entails, is the most important quality and the best way to make
God known in the world we live. All these other qualities make a “good” man, a strong man, even an effective man.
But without love (so aptly described in 1 Cor 13) one cannot be godly. Without love the other virtues are vain. Love is the great motivator, and the way for others to know we are believers, and the way to know if we abide in him.
“Tho I speak with tongues of man and of angels, and have not love, I am become as a clanging brass or tinkling cymbal.”
“Love… rejoices in the truth.” (honest)
“Love…always protects.” (defender of the weak)
Prophecies cease, tongues still, knowledge vanishes. “Love never fails” (faithful)
When I became a godly man … I learned how to love.
